While designing the GSW software, we kept its future users in mind

We wanted to provide them with a simple tool allowing to perform fast and quick weighing operations. For many years we have elaborated a really convenient interface that would allow even less IT-skilled customers to operate the program.

TRUCK AND RAIL WEIGHBRIDGE

The GSW program performs weighing operations in a quick and effective way. By means of a computer workstation, one is able to handle weighing operations on both truck and rail scales.

The GSW program can be used simultaneously for weighing operations performed at three scales. Scale meters should be connected to a computer by means of the RS 232/RS 485 serial port, the TCP/IP protocol or by means of a “virtual scales” mechanism.

VIRTUAL SCALES

“Virtual Scales” is a solution allowing to perform weighing operations on computers that are not directly connected to a scale meter.

Types of weighing operations

SINGLE WEIGHING

A vehicle / railcar is weighed just once. Tare weight value is uploaded from the database or is entered manually by an operator.

DOUBLE WEIGHING

Net weight is calculated on the basis of differences between two weighing operations: on entering and on departing from premises. Double weighing is also known as entry/exit weighing.

MULTIPLE WEIGHING

Multiple weighing takes place when a vehicle at the same time carries away or brings a few products that are supposed to be transported separately. Multiple weighing operations are often carried out when, e.g. mixtures are being prepared.

TARING

It is a single-time weighing of a vehicle, as a result of which certain weighed mass is saved in the GSW database as tare weight. Saved tare weights are used for single weighing operations.

SERVICE-RELATED WEIGHING

It is a simplified mode of weighing. A weighing operation under this mode is not saved in the database – the only trace left is a ticket printout.

WEIGHING RAILCAR DRAFTS

The GSW program has a mechanism for weighing drafts of railcars. The user can manage drafts and print collective weighing tickets for the entire draft.

WEIGHING BY ITEMS

During weighing it is possible to define an itemised number of products (e.g. 5 tyres). In order to perform a weighing operation, unit weight of a product must already be stipulated.

COMPOUND WEIGHING

This type of weighing is useful when it is necessary to weigh long vehicles / railcars on short scales. During weighing, the vehicle / railcar is moved, and the sum of particular weighing operations constitutes the vehicle weight.

MANUAL WEIGHING

It is possible to weigh mass introduced “by hand” (i.e. the mass that does not come from the scale meter). This function should be used solely in emergency situations (i.e. when it is necessary to introduce into the database weighing operations that were not performed, e.g. because of a failure of scales or of a computer operating the scales).

WEIGHING ON PALLET SCALES

The function allows to perform weighing operations using small scales (e.g. pallet scales), without a need to enter a plate number. The weighing operation shall be a single weighing operation. The function is frequently used in companies dealing with steel scrap.

Configurable database tables

To perform weighing operations under a default configuration, one needs three pieces of information:

  • Plate number/ railcar number
  • Customer
  • Product

Should the information be insufficient, the GSW program shall, owing to its configurable database tables, allow to create 10 additional data table (dictionaries) and 8 information fields.

Data sets

“Data sets” is a function that allows to appoint to a given plate number any information that is necessary for weighing operations. Data sets can also be created for proximity card readers and remote controls. The function is of great importance in case of regular customers who perform numerous weighing operations over the same products.

Application of the data set function can distinctively improve the weighing operation rate.

Handling saving into the memory - ALIBI

The GSW program includes an important function of saving into the ALIBI memory. That function is available in selected models of scale meters. The ALIBI memory number can also be printed out on a weighing ticket.

Classification of weighing operations

The GSW program has a functionality that allows to classify weighing on a percentage and kilogram basis. The classification can be carried out on the basis of conditions defined during configuration (e.g. classification in relation to customers, boroughs, etc.).

An example of a percentage classification related to Boroughs’ names: Borough A -20%, Borough B -30 %, Borough C – 50%.

Every weighing operation may be contaminated. The software allows to reduce net weigh by an amount of waste, expressed in percentage and/or kilograms.

Weighing operations with packages and containers

The GSW program contains a module of package handling (including containers). The module is useful when weighed products are in packages or when the scales, besides a weighed product, also weighs other items (e.g. pallets).

The software allows to define a list of packages with weight values allocated to them. The weighing window also contains an additional field where a user can define a number of packages returned or collected by a given customer.

Weighing tickets include summaries of weighing operations with detailed lists of packages.

Waste handling

The GSW program is equipped with a mechanism to handle waste generated by a weighed product. Before performing a weighing operation, a user can enter an amount of waste. Waste can be expressed in percentage and in kilograms – the program will automatically recalculate net weight that will be reduced by the waste amount.

Weighing under rail scale mode

The program allows to perform weighing operations under rail scale mode, with an option to aggregate rail weighbridges.

In case of solutions where every weighbridge has a separate scale meter, the GSW program allows to perform weighing operation with any combination of weighbridges.

Possible combinations:

A, B, C (each separately)
A+B
B+C
A+C
A+B+C
